“I’m looking for this idea of ‘British Summer,’ the idea of being on the Brighton beach. Something which is very lightweight, very airy, with a lot of linen and cotton that has a 1950’s subcultural movement”, states Jonathan Anderson, founder of London-based fashion brand J.W. Anderson. The launch of his Spring Summer 2018 line with Uniqlo will be the brand’s second collaboration with the Japanese retailer.

Following the success of the first collaboration, this new line draws inspiration from Britain’s Brighton Beach. Renowned as a vibrant city, the collection highlights J.W. Anderson’s unique take on British culture. The aesthetic celebrates the 1950’s heyday of the city, fusing quality fabrics with functionality.

The collection includes striped t-shirts and knit polos reminiscent of beachwear. Dresses, seersucker bomber jackets, flared skirts, and blouses with J.W. Anderson’s iconic ruffles and ribbons, are also a focal point. T-shirts, knits and bags with seagull prints are a nod to the joy of British seaside life. The range also incorporates workwear elements. Namely, 1950’s-style denim jackets and tunic shirts inspired by traditional British police uniforms. There are also quintessential J.W. Anderson touches like stripes and patchwork on shirts and skirts. The soft summer-ready palette includes sunburn, true blue, poppy red, white, beige, and sage green.

LifeWear fuses J.W. Anderson’s innovative design with Uniqlo’s commitment to fit, materials, and functionality. Together, they embody the Japanese values of simplicity, quality and longevity. The J.W. Anderson x Uniqlo collection features shirts in soft cotton linen and a selection of items made from Japanese Kaihara denim. A pocketable parka made of a fabric that reduces wrinkles is treated with a durable water repellant. The perfect example of good fashion design elevated by utility.
