Exclusive insights from Premiere Classe, Tranoi and WOMAN

Our team attended the Spring Summer 2018 editions of Premiere Classe, Tranoi and WOMAN which are held during Paris Fashion Week.

About The Shows

The shows were all within central Paris, with Premiere Classe being held at Jardin des Tuileries, Tranoi hosted within the Louvre and WOMAN at Place Vendôme.

All three shows featured a mix of established industry leaders, smaller independent brands and up-and-coming designers, showcasing a diverse range of design talent for the Spring Summer season.

Within the shows there was a focus on hand craft, shown especially at Premiere Classe, this included demonstrations from milliners creating hats from scratch and live artists customizing accessories.

This season, alongside the main trade show, Tranoi hosted the LONDON show ROOMS in association with The BFC, a showcase of 30 international fashion designers. The event was also partnered with K-FASHION PROJECT Paris and ETHIPOP and four other independent designers.

Key Trends

Mountain Survival

Outdoor activities and mountain survival are the inspiration for extreme sports infused apparel and accessories that mix function and femininity. Bungee cord knot shoppers, rope-like woven bag handles and cropped, padded gilets fastened with climbing clips come in vibrant acid pastel hues for a high-vis aesthetic.

Retro Sports Day

Retro sports influences continue to show strongly as athletic elements translate into ready-to-wear casuals. Tracksuit stripes adorn hems and necklines, adding a pop of colour to vintage neutrals. Classic silhouettes are revived with running shorts, varsity jackets and cropped cheerleader cardigans making a comeback.

The Frill Effect

Feminine frills are given a contemporary update with statement placements and pure white colour-ways that can be applied across both apparel and accessory categories. Ruffle effects are amplified, echoing tiered asymmetric skirt hems or folded into oversized pleats to create tactile bag handles.

The Statement Sunhat

As seen on the S/S 2018 catwalks, The Statement Sunhat is set to be a key hat shape for the season. Styles have excessive brims and soft manipulated edges, whilst composed in woven straw to emphasise that summertime feel. This trend exudes feminine elegance and a sun-seeker essentialist mood.
