Our team attended the Spring/Summer 2018 edition of the womenswear trade show held at the Saachi Gallery in Chelsea, London. Each season over 250 international designers showcase their work within the vast galleries of the Saatchi.

In March the Saatchi Gallery opened their From Selfie to Self-Expression exhibition, as this exhibition runs until September selected pieces that are on show during the exhibition remained on the wall during Scoop, providing the perfect backdrop to each designers stand. Exhibitors were featured as part of this exhibition, with a large montage of all their selfies that adorned one of the walls within the gallery.

This season saw the launch of Scoop Salon, a brand new gallery space within the Saatchi Gallery that showcases a mix of both UK based and international accessory brands. Within this carefully curated space the selected brands each had their own stand that displayed their latest designs for the new season.

Key Brands

Within the show there was a real blend of both established and up-and-coming designers, which allowed visitors to see a variety of creativity within womenswear and accessories. At Trendstop we have selected three key brands which stood out throughout the show.

Insane in the Rain

Insane in the Rain is a new brand that is based around the belief of creating environmentally friendly rainwear. All their rain jackets entitled Happy Jackets are made from recycled plastic called RPET. This environmentally conscious brands products are created from recycled plastic bottles. Each jacket is created from between 17-23 plastic bottles. All the products feature the brands individual in-house prints that prove a bright and colourful contrast to the traditional darker shades and prints that feature on most rainwear. This choice of material ensures that all products that are created will help contribute towards saving the environment for both man and mammal.

Genuin Verk

Genuin Verk is a South Korean brand that was made up of a network of new designers that came together to create a fresh and exciting approach to womenswear. Every season the brand collaborates with up-and-coming designers, allowing them to nurture and develop the talents of the latest innovators within design. The apparel they create is fun, bright and youthful. Every season they introduce new and innovative fabrications, such as the holographic pink and green enamel that featured within the SS18 collection. All the pieces are individual in their own right but also all work well when styled together.

Ale Walsh

Ale Walsh is a self-titled brand based in Dublin, Ireland. Ale Walsh was born in Chile, but moved to the Philippines in 2006 where her love of arts and crafts developed further, through seeing traditional hand-craft methods first hand. This passion for craft fuelled the beginnings of her own accessories brand. Ale Walsh creates handbags and clutches that are handcrafted, whether that be through woven techniques or genuine skins. Some of the accessories also feature delicate precious stone clasps. Colour and detail are also two key elements of the accessories, with bright vibrant ombre shades featuring and intricate embroidery details that introduce a 3D element to the design.

Emerging Trends

Discover three key emerging trends showcased within this seasons Scoop London.

Icy Lavender

This fresh shade of lavender is apparent for the Spring Summer 2018 season. With a cool icy undertone this colour works well within both apparel and accessories. It offers a new approach to the more classic pastel shades that feature. Subtle accents of white and gold create an interesting contrast alongside this nouveau approach to lavender.

It’s a Bugs Life

Critter inspired adornments feature within accessories for this season. Printed emblems of bees feature alongside embroidered motifs and appliqué detailing of bees and butterflies that create a 3D appearance. This is an interesting approach to infuse a sense of inspiration from nature in a fresh and contemporary way.

Nouveau Neoprene

Neoprene is reining supreme throughout the Spring Summer 2018 collections. Featuring in both apparel and accessories this highly popular choice of fabric is a great contemporary option to create a sense of form alongside an underlying soft quality, with the introduction of textural surfaces, representing faux fur. Working well within oversized apparel pieces, this material creates a structured silhouette on the body. Within accessories neoprene is a practical, yet contemporary choice for bags, giving the option to use neoprene detailings alongside the main fabrication. Within footwear neoprene gives off an athleisure feel, providing a great choice for the avid sports enthusiast due to it being lightweight, durable and waterproof.
