The ultimate event for sneaker enthusiasts took place in London for the first time

Trendstop attended the first ever London Sneaker Con which took place in Kensington Olympia. The event gave sneakerheads the opportunity to check out some rare kicks as well as buy and trade sneakers in the famed Sneaker Pit. However while some key styles were on display, the event failed to live up to its international counterparts.

The Crowd

Yeezy Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman. Or did he? Trendstop was expecting rarer sneaker styles to be on display. But almost every other style we saw on peoples feet were Yeezy Boost 350’s. The clothing was a combination of Supreme, BAPE, Nike and Adidas. Some newer brands such as Anti Social Social Club were also on display.

The crowd was relatively young with many of them being new to the sneaker game. Other then that several YouTube celebrities were in attendance. World Heavyweight Champion boxer Anthony Joshua was the highest profile celebrity in attendance. The NYC and LA Sneaker Con events are full of rare styles on people’s feet. The majority of the crowd at Sneaker Con London were following the recent hype train set by Kanye West.

The Sellers

The sellers at Sneaker Con London came prepared. Rare kicks such as the self lacing Nike Mag, Banned Air Jordan 1’s, Mastermind NMD XR1s, and Kaws Jordan 4’s were on sale. Nike Air Yeezy 2 Red Octobers, and the Kanye West Bape Sta’s were also available. Yet the sellers displayed these on top of boxes and boxes of Yeezy Boost 350’s. This was to make sales to the mostly suburban crowd.

The Positives of Sneaker Con London

The first Sneaker Con in London brought together sneaker fans from all walks of life under one roof. Several rare styles were on display.

People got a chance to see kicks in person that they may never have seen elsewhere. The event was well organised and ticket holders required a hand stamp before lining up. This helped prevent queue jumpers.

Things for Sneaker Con to improve upon in the future

Sneaker Con London was a fun event but there are many things which would improve it. The ticket prices were high at over £20 each. This meant many sneakerheads chose to skip the event.

Established UK event Crepe City at The Old Truman Brewery has tickets priced from only £7. The event also lacked a big event feel. It felt like it could have been any other sample sale. Live performances or shows could have given the event an epic feel.
