Sustainability and the High-Street
Although high-street brands have been focusing on the importance of sustainability for a while now, the Mango Committed collection seems somewhat later than its competitor’s offers but this is due to the sustainable roots and the story behind the range.
Other high-street brands that have been championing sustainability, but one brand at the forefront of eco-friendly clothing is H&M. The brands Conscious collection features sustainably manufactured basics that can easily be introduced into any wardrobe, allowing a greater audience to buy sustainable fashion. Another brand that has been involved in the promotion of sustainable fashion is online retailer ASOS. They have work with many eco-friendly brands, and from this developed the Eco Edit. This section on their site allows the customer to purchase these sustainable pieces from the different brands with ease. Alongside this they have a fair-trade label called ASOS Made In Kenya and a partnership with SOKO Kenya who manufactures clothes for the ASOS Africa range.
Mango has previously offered various sustainable pieces within its seasonal offerings but this time it has produced an entire sustainable collection. Featuring 20 menswear and 25 womenswear pieces, the collection is substantial and offers an array of looks to the eco-conscious shopper.
With considerate planning this collection comprises of carefully selected manufacturers based in Portugal, Turkey and Morocco environmentally friendly materials. Fabrics such as cotton and polyester are recycled. All fabric dye is also environmentally safe.
Even though all the fabrics and dyes used are considerate to the environment, they do not lack in quality, which is the key to success of this particular range. With quality comes a price and the price point for the Mango Committed collection is higher than usual, but this is all down to the manufacturing process and the materials used, so therefore if you want to buy into more sustainable products, you will have to pay that little bit extra.
Clean, minimal separates carry through the collection. A slight formal, yet relaxed overall aesthetic is apparent, making a range of separates perfect for everyday wear. Warming spring shades of camel and sand sit alongside fresh muted mint and charcoal.
When will it be available to buy?
