Acclaimed Japanese artist Takashi Murakami has collaborated with sports footwear and apparel brand Vans on a new collection for Fall 2015. Known world over for his ‘superflat’ aesthetic and unique high-art-meets-commercial-culture creations, Murakami’s artwork updates the Classic Slip-On Vans silhouette with vivid colours and playful prints. Unisex styles come decorated with skull motifs or smiling flower patterns in six different colourways, with miniature versions also available for toddlers. Other highlights include a choice of three T-shirts (with one featuring an illustrated portrait of Murakami), as well as a limited-edition series of skateboard decks.
“For the past 10-plus years, without exaggeration, I have been wearing Vans slip-ons almost every single day,” says Murakami. “For me, there are no other shoes that are so comfortably wearable that let me focus on my artwork.”
The Takashi Murakami x Vans Fall 2015 collection will be available to buy from the Vans website from June 27.
