Hot off the trade show floor, the Trendstop.com trend experts bring you the latest denim trends emerging at the latest edition of Denim Première Vision. From May 27-28 2015, the Fira Montjuïc in Barcelona opened its doors to 97 weavers, manufacturers, launderers and finishers, all debuting their new designs for Fall/Winter 2016-17. An essential industry event for all things denim, this season’s main theme was ‘Denim Constellation,’ which explored new innovations influenced by technical colors and creative uses of natural materials. As part of the out-of-this-world theme, the Trendstop team have analysed the wide range of collections showcased at Denim Première Vision to bring you Cosmic Landings, a forward F/W16 denim trend that reveals forward ways to update surface, texture and print.

This season, denim collections resemble the surface of a distant planet, creating garments with speckled surface finishes. This treatment can be executed through the weave of the fabric itself, or alternatively with flecked tonal prints. Both methods produce tactile effects, which can then be used to update a range of garment styles, from blue wash jeans to darker-toned utility pieces.

Fall/Winter denim looks as though it has been salvaged from deep underground, on show in rugged styles with an earthy, worn-in feel. Across shirts and jeans alike, blue denims are treated with brown-tinted washes and mattified finishes, as components like buttons take on an aged look.
