Last week saw the 16th edition of Denim Première Vision take place at the Fira Montjuïc in Barcelona, showcasing the work of nearly 100 weavers, manufacturers, launderers and finishers. A key trade event for all things denim, the Fall/Winter 2016-17 edition marked the show’s first year in Barcelona, having moved from Paris in May 2014 – it was also the first edition where the company name dropped the ‘by,’ using the shortened Denim Première Vision as part of an alignment with premium design, know-how and specialties. Trendstop’s denim team was at hand to report on all the latest trends as they happened.
This season’s major theme was ‘Denim Constellation,’ exploring the newest innovations across the denim universe with three sub-categories: Another Moon, Galactic Dream and Orion Explorers. At the entrance, a constellation chart encouraged attendees walk through the interactive room, while on the ceiling, drapes of black plastic combined with mechanical installations hanging above a variety of displays, lit with atmospheric blue spotlights.
Highlights from the trade show itself included a walk-through denim timeline of style at Martelli Spa as a 50th anniversary celebration for the brand, while Jeanologia debuted an exhibition about the history of denim finishing, using technology in order to reinvent past techniques. Elsewhere, brands such as Orta and Kilim Denim focused on nature and organic production.
