Sportswear giant Adidas has opened a new pop-up store in Seoul, South Korea to celebrate the comeback of its iconic Superstar sneaker. Located in the fashionable Gangnam district and built by cultural movement architects Urbantainer, the store also hosts a Superstar Hall of Fame exhibition to put the Superstar sneaker back in the spotlight forty years after its creation.
Guiding visitors through six themes – from Hardwood & Backboards, Music & Culture Connection, Art in Superstar and Superstar in Superstar to Collaboration in Superstar and Fashion in Superstar – the exhibition is curated to highlight the origins of the Adidas Originals classic and its heritage within popular culture, showcasing collaborations within both the music industry and the creative arts. Urbantainers’ team aimed to design a unique and raw environment that truly capture the essence of the experience, bringing together materials like diamond mesh wire, metal pipes, graffiti tags and old wood. As a result, both exhibition and store design recall the early days of American urban culture, of which the Adidas Superstar played an important part.
The Adidas Superstar Hall of Fame pop-up store will be open until 19 April 2015.
