TRENDSPIRATION: Dior’s Trompe L’oeil Takeover at the Palace of Versailles

TRENDSPIRATION: Dior’s Trompe L’oeil Takeover at the Palace of Versailles

France’s iconic Palace of Versailles has undergone a fashion-inspired transformation this fall, cloaked in a massive trompe l’oeil canvas created by artist Pierre Delavie. Partly designed as a celebration of fashion house Dior’s ongoing collaboration with the historic site, the canvas also serves to cloak the building as it undergoes major interior and exterior restoration work that will continue till next spring. Printed on the surface are photoreal images of models dressed in some of Dior’s most recognisable designs both past and present, posing against various architectural facades. The photoreal graphics also create the illusion of revealing the courtyard space from the outside. Delavie has described his creation as a homage to “all the glories of France.”
