Design Inspiration: Natural World Embroidery

Design Inspiration: Natural World Embroidery

In this week’s Design Inspiration, we see how Peru-based artist Ana Teresa Barboza crafts pieces inspired by the natural world using textures like embroidery, yarn and wool. Ana’s designs blur the boundaries between the mediums of sculpture and tapestry, in her Suspension series [pictured], landscape scenes look as though they are bursting out of their embroidery hoops with a dramatic 3D effect, working best against clean white walls. An image of the ocean sees its cool blue waters spill out of the frame, while another design sees crashing waves collide off rocks. Elsewhere, a peaceful picture of a rocky grassland flourishes with lush green yarns. Delicate yet striking, Ana’s pieces work as an interesting reflection of the all-powerful force of nature.

We’ll be back soon with another fresh dose of Design Inspiration – stay tuned!
