Fashion News: Rankin’s Evocative Celebration of Death

Renowned British photographer Rankin and Hunger TV’s Beauty Editor-at-Large Andrew Gallimore have teamed up on a powerfully evocative new editorial called ‘Epitaph.’ A series of death masks is inspired by the pair’s previous collaboration for Rankin’s 2013 Alive in the Face of Death exhibition – however, rather than commemorating the macabre nature of death, each mask has been created as more of a homage to the Day of the Dead in Mexico, where people remember and honour their dead in a more vital and colourful way. The most obvious interpretation of this is the sugar skull-style mask, decorated in intricate beadwork. Other looks range from fresh florals and clownish stars to intricate pearl embellishment or polished silver spikes, with black face paint beneath emphasising the ghoulish effect.
