Fashion Photography: Jesse Laitinen Captures Maria Nordström’s Shields

Now how’s this for some fashion photography to remember? Swedish photographer Jesse Laitinen has captured Shields, the second ever collection by fellow Swede and womenswear designer Maria Nordström. With gravity-defying hair by Dejan Cekanovic and ghostly makeup by Sophia Eriksen, a delicate, ethereal model is contrasted with the strong, modern apparel she wears. The collection itself is inspired by the new architectural sensibility that impacted on the prevailing post-modern attitude in the early ‘90s – a time when Nordström was traveling around Europe and experiencing the cutting-edge sights of the deconstructivism movement. This architecture later laid the foundations for her designs, translated into the “vulnerability that characterizes city life” in Shields. Technical fabrics take on an elegant finish in sharp shapes, based around the concept of shielding the urban citizen. Highlights include coated tees, clean embellished dresses and blown-up sweats.
