Kanye West dropped denim into the mix for his 5th Yeezy collection, showcased in New York at New York Fashion Week yesterday. The location was a touch more low-key than last season’s and the show took a more unconventional route of projecting the models onto 30inch screens with the audience only seeing the models up-close at the final walk through.
High rise and loose fit double denim accompanied with snakeskin and suede boots both tucked in or layered over the top was apparent across most of the women’s styles.
Menswear looks hinted to a new trainer release which is set to be highly anticipated like past styles. This trainer featured a more pumped up retro style that finished the casual men’s styling.
Colour played an important role in focusing the collection. One of the stand out tones came from a series of retro sports inspired tracksuits and hoodies.
At Trendstop we have identified this sporting burgundy punch ‘Beetroot’, as one of our key fashion colours for Fall/Winter 2018-19. Evolving from classic burgundy tones, inky Beetroot further emphasises the depths of Fall 2018’s darks, creating a complimentary contrast against a stark monochrome palette.

Though the show was hiccup free, Kanye is never one to shy away from controversy. There is current speculation over the true or faux nature of the fur pieces in the collection. Right before the show, the singer/ songwriter Sia tweeted asking “would you consider going fur free? This is the reality of fur for fashion-it’s so sad”. (inserting a clip from PETA’s site) Vogue has stated that the fur pieces are indeed faux so we will keep a watch on the developments.
Not without it’s celebrity following and support crew, Kanye’s wife stated “So proud of my baby for his amazing show today!” Kim Kardashian the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, 36, wrote “It was so good!”
Love it or loath it, Yeezy makes its mark on a now more than ever heavily populated street inspired catwalk season.
