New York Fashion Week kicked off the Fall 2017 RTW season with a positive message of solidarity and defiance in the face of global political upheaval. Beginning at Tommy Hilfiger’s Los Angeles show, the #TiedTogether movement launched by Business of Fashion saw designers in New York adopt the simple white bandana as a visual metaphor of unity and inclusivity.
Attendees of Raf Simons’ Calvin Klein debut received invites packaged with white cotton neckerchiefs while the newly symbolic accessory swept the runway at 3.1 Phillip Lim and won support from Thakoon and Diane Von Furstenberg.
On the streets, bloggers and stylists reworked their scarves in unexpected and creative ways to show their support. Aimee Song of Song of Style revamped her Louis Vuitton bag with a white bandanna handle.

A resurgence of slogan t-shirts, embroidered caps and protest pin badges graced models at Prabal Gurung, Christian Siriano and Public School, ensuring that for both audience and participants, New York Fashion Week became less about the clothes and more about the causes.
