Ispo trade show based in Munich, Germany creates the perfect backdrop to showcase all of the new innovations and outdoor apparel advancements in the market.
North Face, Patagonia, Marmot and Salomon to name a few dominate with large stands at the show offering Ski, sport and leisure advancements. A noticeable shift in the market is the increase of fashion forward colours, hybrid materials and lifestyle driven collections to the show. Trendstop identified one of the biggest trends ‘The Premium Neutral.’ Taking a more natural colour palette and applying a level of clean and contemporary styling into the outdoor explorer mix creates a premium and stand out offering.
Urban Meets Function
Jack Wolfskin reinvented their ‘Tech Lab’ in a cool neutral palette. ‘Urban meets function’ and ‘Nature meets technology’ sum up the contemporary sub collection.
Padded jackets, doubled layering, technical zips, woollen colour blocking and sleek contemporary design encapsulated the ‘Tech Lab’ direction. The fact that the collection was stripped of the obvious outdoor ski and active bright colour palette gave it the premium edge.
Wolfskin were certainly not the only major brand showcasing this more curated sub collection. Talking to exhibitors it was clear that brands are still keen to keep the volume sports colours in their collections but they see the need to address a more stylised offering.
The New Neutral
A more colourless product was spotted throughout the show in styles including hiking boots, nylon shells, padded gilets, and salopettes.
Taping into the trend where nature meets technology we have been tracking a noticeable rise in a more nature inspired material offering. Woollen yarns, slub jersey and cork usage in the outdoor market demonstrates the cross over from the fashion and sports markets.
Berg Outdoor picked up an Ispo award for the function & casual sneaker, blocking natural cork with a grey woollen fabric. The style is a perfect example of how nature has played its part in conceptualising a traditional silhouette such as a sneaker.
With the rise of stylised hybrids in the market we are experiencing more and more interesting innovations in the mix that with the ever demanding customer we will continue to see a more fashion forward product developed for the emerging markets.
