The upcoming KAWS X Jordan release is undoubtly the most hyped sneaker release of the year. It follows the New York based artist’s recent t-shirt and accessories collection with Japanese fast fashion giant Uniqlo. This was commissioned by Nigo of A Bathing Ape, and Human Made fame. He also worked on the high end luxury crocodile leather bag collaboration with Columbian accessories designer Nancy Gonzalez. This was released at visionary retailer Colette in Paris.
KAWS, previously behind premium streetwear label OriginalFake has previously worked on footwear collaborations with BAPE, Nike, Vans, Visvim, and Marc Jacobs. Clothing collaborations have included Jun Takahashi’s Undercover, Comme Des Garcons, and coveted skate and streetwear brand Supreme.
Coming off a successful re-release of its Space Jam 11 Silhouette, Jordan Brand also has an upcoming spring 2017 re-release of the black and red colorway Retro IV ‘Bred’. This will feature the Nike Air branding on the heel for the first time since 1999. The shoe is designed by famed designer Tinker Hatfield.
No stranger to working with Nike having previously reworked the Air Force 1 and the Air Max 90 models, KAWS is collaborating with Jordan Brand for the first time. The world is excited to see what is coming from one of the worlds most popular and exciting modern artists who has had work displayed in museums and galleries worldwide, and the brand started by Nike and the man considered to be the greatest basketball player of all time.
