Brands Embrace Sustainability

Reuse, Reduce and Recycle were the watchwords for many brands at the Berlin based trade shows this season. From repurposed materials to technical fabrics made from throw-away items, many labels embraced the fashion industry’s new focus on environmental responsibility.

Bread & Butter appeared in its current guise for the final time this season and from F/W 2016-17 the show, now managed by Zalando, will focus on the end consumer. Though somewhat diminished compared to its hey day it still offered up some inspiring brands among their Start Up selection. Up-cycling and sustainability were strong with Amazonas’ biodegradable flip-flops and repurposed paraglider fabric bags at Baumm.



After last season’s successful expansion into it’s new home at Arena, Berlin, Seek returned with a host of new exhibitors and a new neighbour. Celebrating it’s 10th anniversary, Bright has moved in next door and which was welcomed by visitors and exhibitors alike allowing easy access to both shows.
At Seek, labels such as O’Neill, Pinqponq and Ecoalf lead the charge for environmental awareness utilising fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles for their swimwear, backpacks and sportswear respectively while at Bright, MosMig eyewear showed wooden frames crafted from skateboards.


Premium continued to offer a vast array of brands across women’s, men’s and accessories categories with labels such as Joe’s Jeans continuing the eco theme with their range of environmentally friendly fabrics.
