Chanel Reveal Pre-Fall 2013 Collection at Metiers d’Art

Last night, Chanel revealed a new collection for Pre-Fall 2013 at their annual Métiers d’Art show, which celebrates the craft of the Chanel ateliers.

Staged at the ruins of Linlithgow Palace, Scotland (where Mary Queen of Scots was born), the collection was distinctly influenced by a Scottish theme, with Karl Lagerfeld infusing an abundance of tartan and tweed styles with Chanel’s trademark elegance. Models included Stella Tennant, Cara Delevnigne and Edie Campbell, who walked a runway offset by flaming medieval baskets, with designs ranging from classic Fair Isle knits and kilt-pleated outerwear to opulent jewel-encrusted jewelry and feathered hats.

The label has a long-standing history with Scotland, starting with Coco Chanel herself – in addition to her using Scottish wool in Chanel designs, during her romance with the Duke of Westminster she would often visit his estates in the Scottish Highlands, and become inspired by the native fashions.
