STYLISTS: New Fashion Visionaries

Retail maven and industry expert Katie Baron has written her first book outlining the influence of stylists in the world of fashion.

A steadily growing shift in the dynamics of the fashion industry has given license to a special breed of visionaries who bridge the gap between art, culture and commerce – step forward the ‘super stylist’. Gone are the days when they were all but invisible to the world beyond fashion’s inner circle, but as Baron explains, they are now becoming increasingly well known in their own right alongside the photographers, art directors and magazine editors of the industry.

Featuring stunning imagery and entertaining interviews with some of the biggest names in the field, including Lady Gaga’s stylist Nicola Formichetti, Marc Jacobs’ collaborator Katie Grand and Melanie Ward of Harper’s Bazaar, it’s an essential read for fashion student, aspiring stylist, fashion follower or industry insider alike. A celebration of contemporary styling, the book covers work from commercial ad campaigns and catwalk shows to fashion editorial, as well as looking inside the business of retail itself, featuring the hugely successful brands and designers for whom innovators consult. It showcases not only the work of the most talented stylists working globally but also the crucial partnerships and collaborations that have spawned much of the current creative landscape as we know it.

STYLISTS: New Fashion Visionaries is published by Laurence King Publishing with foreword by Nick Knight and is available from March 5 2012.
