Paris based designer Thomas Engel Hart presented his Spring Summer 2011 for the first time at Berlin Fashion Week. Entitled ‘Constructive Restraint’, the collection was applied to both men and, more surprisingly, also womenswear. The womenswear drew from the mens aesthetic, girls adorned in oversized boy clothes, appropriating the Engel Hart style for themselves. A subtle military inspiration influences clean cut, sleeveless jackets and boxy leathers, worn with more than a hint of swagger.
Exaggerated utility pockets, drawstring fastenings and a color palette dominated by gray, black and white, promoted a sporty minimalism that was easily translated to the womenswear looks. Loose-fit gray cotton parkas were paired with tailored white shirts and trousers, a juxtaposition of casual and formal that abounded throughout the collection. Oversized multi-colored gingham and abstract collage prints added a welcome pop of color.
